Pandemic Thoughts

I have spent the past few weeks constantly in thought over what is happening in the world. It almost feels like we are living through one of those dystopian novels I loved as a kid… not quite real. But it is and I think I finally have been given the words to respond.

To be honest my greatest fear does not lie with the disease during this time. I respect it and am very cautious about transmitting it because there are people at serious risk, but my fear has been with the food. As someone with an eating disorder the feeling of a lack of control has heightened my anxiety and made me very conscious of what I am eating… and even more so on the panic that has consumed the public and emptied groceries. That is what has made me afraid, the thought of being without foods that I can enjoy without panic. But, even here I still have a sense of peace in Christ.

While we are not at all in control of this situation, God is. He has allowed this pandemic to sweep our nation, and as in every crisis or struggle He has a purpose greater than we can know! In China, the Gospel is being spread like never before because the masks help hide conversations from the government. Here, families are being brought together again for quality time, that has been largely lost in our busy culture. And this pervasive fear leaves people looking for a source of peace and comfort beyond themselves.

Guys, this pandemic has given us an amazing opportunity that we might never have had before. Not only do we have the chance to show that amidst the fear you can find peace in a relationship with the God, but we have the chance to spread the gospel everywhere! No, I am not encouraging you to leave your houses and go door to door preaching the name of Jesus. Please don’t! But for all of us young people, we have a way to evangelize right in our fingertips.

With all of this free time, I am positive the presence of people on social media platforms is growing?! I mean think about it… when you’re bored you usually turn to your phone for entertainment (I know I do). And of course, every site we go to we see something about COVID – 19… well what if we did the same with the name of Jesus? What if every time someone went online, they saw the name of God, a Bible verse, a portion of an online Church sermon?

Just think of the impact we could have!

I have felt so hindered and stopped by this virus. It has taken my senior year of college. My graduation. My research project. My social life. BUT IT CANNOT STOP MY RELATIONSHIP AND PASSION FOR GOD! He is soooooo much greater! Just like Louie Giglio said at passion at the start of this year, this is our year as a young generation of believers to ROAR in the name of Jesus, louder than ever before. The world is literally waiting, seeking answers. They are so desperate right now for peace. Their ears are open… so let’s fill them with the truth of God!

Spread it all over social media! Now is not the time to let fear win, but to claim victory and power in the name of Jesus, and continue to further His name and His fame and His kingdom!
